Student Freebies and Discounts from Big Tech, AI Companies and Institutions (October 2026)
Free and discounted AI tools, cloud credits, software and memberships for students aged 18 and over, company by company.
Updated 21 October 2026All links checkedFor students 18+

Welcome To The Tech World
If you are 18 or older and starting out in technology, welcome. The best AI assistants, cloud platforms, design suites and professional societies now run student programmes, and many of them cost nothing or close to it.
This guide walks through those programmes one company at a time. For each one you will find what it gives you, who qualifies, what it costs when the free period ends, and a link to the page where you can claim it.
Most offers need a school email or a verification service such as SheerID or UNiDAYS. Many differ by country, and free periods usually convert to paid plans on their own, so set reminders as you go.
Everything here was researched on 20 and 21 October 2026. Where sources disagreed, the text says so rather than guessing, and you should always confirm on the official page before you sign up. If a link has moved, search the company name plus “students”.

1. Deadlines That Matter Right Now

Two dates decide what you should do first. The nearest is 31 October 2026, when the ChatGPT Plus offer for US students closes. The second is 31 December 2026, the cut-off for Google’s free AI plans.
Here is the full list, in the order you are likely to need it:
- 31 October 2026: four free months of ChatGPT Plus for US college and graduate students.
Claim it from OpenAI.
- 31 December 2026: twelve months of Google AI Pro for US students aged 18 and over, and twelve months of Google AI Plus in more than 140 other markets, including India.
Start at the Gemini students page.
- 31 December 2026: free Google AI Plus for students in Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Iraq and Jordan.
Read the Ahram Online report.
- Closed 12 September 2026: the Claude Campus Ambassador programme for the 2026-27 cohort.
See the Claude campus programmes.
- Ended 24 September 2026: Apple’s US Back to School gift card, with the India promotion having ended on 27 August 2026.
Check Apple’s education store.
2. AI Companies Offering Student Plans

AI assistants are where students currently get the most for the least. The offers below are the most generous in this guide, and several of them expire this year.
Google (Gemini, Notebook, And Colab)
Google has the broadest student offer of any AI company. In the United States, students aged 18 and over who verify through SheerID get Google AI Pro free for twelve months, and you can claim it at the Gemini students page. It renews at US$19.99 a month unless you cancel.
Outside the US the offer is Google AI Plus, free for twelve months in more than 140 markets. It includes Gemini Omni, higher usage limits and 400 GB of storage, and it renews at about US$4.99 a month in local currency. In India the plan normally costs Rs 399 a month, so the free year is worth real money, as the Google India announcement explains.
The exclusions are worth knowing before you apply: the US, Canada, Bolivia, Albania, Macau, Hong Kong and Tunisia are not covered by the Plus offer. Students in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Rwanda, South Africa and Zimbabwe get the stronger Pro plan free for twelve months instead, announced in July 2026. Techeconomy has the African announcement.
Egypt has its own arrangement, a joint programme with the country’s ICT ministry that gives students a free year of AI Plus. It has since been extended to Algeria, Morocco, Iraq and Jordan, and you can read the Moroccan coverage on Le360.
Several Google tools are free to everyone. Gemini Notebook, formerly NotebookLM, and the free tier of
Gemini cost nothing, and
Google Skills offers free Google Cloud courses plus 35 free lab credits a month. A limited number of students and faculty at US higher-education institutions also get Colab Pro free for a year, as
Google’s Colab announcement describes.
Discounts exist where the free offers do not reach. Google AI Pro is up to 75% off in some markets, including a Japan announcement, and some users report a 75% renewal offer when their free period ends. A bundle of Pro and YouTube Premium runs up to 70% off in selected markets, which in Germany works out to EUR 5.49 a month for up to four years. Google’s standard US$300 Cloud trial is not student-only but is open to students.
One catch applies throughout: Google asks for a payment method even though nothing is charged during the free period. Set a reminder before it converts.
OpenAI (ChatGPT And Codex)
OpenAI’s student offer is narrower and more urgent. Eligible US college and graduate students can claim four free monthly billing periods of ChatGPT Plus, an US$80 value, verified through SheerID. The OpenAI help page says the claim window closes on 31 October 2026.
Existing Plus subscribers can claim it too, provided they are billed directly by ChatGPT rather than through Apple or Google. After the free months the plan renews at US$20 a month.
Developers get something extra. Verified university students in the US and Canada can receive US$100 in Codex credits, which expire twelve months after the grant. Read the Codex credits terms closely, because these credits extend Codex usage beyond your plan limits and are not API credits.
Everyone else can use ChatGPT Free, which includes Study Mode and is open to students worldwide. There is no further discount: an earlier one-month Plus pilot at some Australian and Colombian universities has ended, and the
OpenAI Help Center lists no replacement for other countries.
Anthropic (Claude)
Anthropic takes a different route. As of mid-2026 there is no public individual student discount or promo code, and student access runs through universities. The company describes its approach on its Claude for education page.
Under Claude for Education, whole campuses get access at partner universities, including Northeastern, the London School of Economics, Champlain College and Northumbria. The LSE’s partnership runs through 2027, according to the LSE Generative AI page. Log in at
claude.ai with your school email to find out whether your own university is on the list, and note that Learning Mode is available on the free tier.
Students who want more than access can look at the Campus Ambassador and Builder Clubs programme, which pays selected students a US$3,600 stipend plus API credits and guest speakers. Undergraduates lead Builder Clubs and graduate students lead Campus Conversations. The 2026-27 window closed on 12 September 2026, so watch the campus programmes page for the next round.
Teachers get a separate offer: Claude for Teachers is free for verified US K-12 educators, with sign-up open until 30 June 2027. It does not cover students, and there is no discounted individual plan on the
Claude pricing page.
Microsoft (Copilot, Microsoft 365, And Azure)
Microsoft’s offer has changed shape this year. Reports from India describe a free twelve-month Microsoft 365 Personal with Copilot for students, as the Free Press Journal reported. The official US page, checked on 21 October 2026, shows no free period at all.
What the US page does offer is 50% off Microsoft 365 Personal, which includes Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook plus 1 TB of cloud storage. Usage limits apply to the AI features. See the Microsoft 365 student pricing page for the current terms.
To qualify you must be enrolled at an accredited college or university, full time or part time, and buy with a personal Microsoft account rather than a school account. You also have to re-verify within a year to keep the price. An earlier US-only three-month free trial has ended, as Tom’s Guide reported at the time.
For building things, Azure for Students gives US$100 in credit for twelve months with no credit card, plus free-tier services and free developer software downloads. High-school students can use Azure for Students Starter. The
Microsoft Learn Student Hub and
Imagine Cup add learning paths and competitions, with Azure credits of up to US$5,000 listed for Imagine Cup projects.
Perplexity
Perplexity’s free tier is open to everyone, and you can use Perplexity without paying. The free-year promotions of 2025 are gone, according to 2026 coverage.
What remains is Education Pro at US$10 a month, half the usual US$20, for verified students and educators through SheerID. It includes everything in Pro plus Learn Mode. One source notes a free first month and others do not, and one blog quoted US$5, a figure no other source supports, so treat US$10 as the verified price. The Layer3 Labs guide compares the claims.
xAI (Grok)
xAI announced two free months of SuperGrok in 2025 for US students with a .edu email. Some coverage says its current status is uncertain, so check the Grok site before counting on it. Outside the US, support is unclear.
After the trial, SuperGrok costs about US$30 a month. The Krater report tracks the offer’s history.
Cursor
Cursor offers one year of Cursor Pro free to verified university students, now including US$20 of usage per month. You can check eligibility on Cursor’s student page.
The catch is geography. The country list in Cursor’s forum thread on the student discount includes the US, UK, Canada, Australia, much of Europe, Japan, Mexico, South Africa and the UAE. Students in India, Vietnam, South Korea, Morocco and Ukraine report that they were not eligible, and Cursor’s own documentation frames the offer around North American .edu students.
GitHub Copilot
GitHub’s Copilot Student plan is free for verified GitHub Education students, but the picture changed this spring. In March 2026 GitHub replaced the old free Pro tier with a capped Student plan and removed manual selection of premium models, as the GitHub changelog records.
On 20 April 2026 GitHub paused new sign-ups for Copilot Student, Pro and Pro+, with no end date given. Existing users keep their access, and the GitHub Docs page for students is the place to watch for a reopening. In the meantime,
Copilot Free remains open to everyone.
JetBrains
JetBrains gives students and teachers every JetBrains IDE free, verified with a university email or an ISIC card and renewed each year. You can claim a licence from the student pack. A 30-day AI Pro trial is offered, after which you drop to the AI Free tier.
The discount comes at graduation, when former student licence holders get 40% off a personal subscription, and bootcamp students who used free coupons qualify too. See the JetBrains store for the current pricing.

3. Developer Tools, Cloud, And Learning Platforms From Big Tech

If you build software, three programmes in this section matter more than any single AI subscription. They give you real infrastructure to learn on, and they cost nothing.
GitHub Student Developer Pack
The GitHub Student Developer Pack is the best single place to start. Verification unlocks dozens of partner offers, with sources counting from 80 to over 100, including GitHub Pro, Codespaces, a JetBrains licence, Azure credits, Heroku credits and three free months of DataCamp.
Verification lasts about two years before you must revalidate, and GitHub rechecks eligibility roughly monthly for Copilot. Two 2026 changes matter: DigitalOcean is leaving the pack and its US$200 credit offer ended after 31 July 2026, and the Copilot sign-up pause weakens the pack’s headline AI perk. Capital and Compute covers the 2026 changes, and high-school students are generally limited by partner terms.
Amazon Web Services
AWS Educate is free and combines a student portal, hands-on labs and Skill Builder content. It also brings a US$35 credit grant, or US$100 if your institution has joined AWS Educate, and starter accounts need no credit card.
Separately, the AWS Free Tier is open to all new customers, with up to US$200 in onboarding credits. Graduate students can apply to
AWS Cloud Credit for Research, with awards of up to US$5,000 per student. These amounts come from third-party summaries, such as the
Nachonacho credits roundup, so confirm them on AWS pages.
NVIDIA
NVIDIA’s Deep Learning Institute makes many self-paced courses free to anyone with a free NVIDIA account, and the offer is not limited to students. The
free course overview lists what is available.
Free instructor-led workshops run through the DLI University Ambassador Program and teaching kits, with a 2025 example being free virtual workshops for students at EMEA universities. There is no standard student discount: paid self-paced courses start around US$30, and the NVIDIA certification exams include a Generative AI LLM associate exam at US$125. A 50% exam code was given at an April 2026 webinar, and students can ask questions on the
NVIDIA developer forum.
IBM SkillsBuild
IBM SkillsBuild offers free courses and industry-recognised digital credentials in AI, cybersecurity, data analytics and more. It serves adult learners aged 18 and over, university students and educators, at no cost.
You sign up for a free account, and the SkillsBuild FAQ covers eligibility and the no-charge software available for classroom use.
At A Glance: Developer Tools And Cloud
| Programme | What Students Get | Where To Claim |
|---|---|---|
| GitHub Student Developer Pack | 80 to 100+ partner perks, free, verified for about two years | |
| Amazon Web Services | AWS Educate with US$35 credit (US$100 if your institution joined), Free Tier up to US$200, research credits up to US$5,000 for graduate students | |
| NVIDIA | Many self-paced Deep Learning Institute courses free, certification exam US$125 | |
| IBM SkillsBuild | Free courses and digital credentials for learners aged 18 and over |
4. Software, Design, And Hardware

Hardware and creative software are where student pricing is a discount rather than a gift. The savings are real, though, and the paperwork is usually just a school email.
Apple
Apple’s education pricing runs year-round on Mac, iPad and now Apple Watch, verified through UNiDAYS in the US and Canada. Start at the Apple Education Store, or the
India store.
The seasonal promotions have ended. The 2026 US Back to School offer gave up to a US$150 gift card and ran to 24 September, as 9to5Mac reported. India’s offer of free AirPods 4, an AirTag 4 Pack or an Apple Pencil Pro ended on 27 August, according to
T2 Online, and
Tom’s Guide explored why the US sale vanished.
Apple Creator Studio, with Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Pixelmator Pro and more, was reported at US$2.99 a month for students against US$12.99 regular. Apple also raised Mac and iPad prices on 25 June 2026, so education prices start higher than last year.
Adobe
Adobe’s student plans for Creative Cloud Pro are discounted, and a school email auto-verifies in many cases. Sources conflict on the numbers: US$19.99 a month for the first year is widely reported, with renewal reported at US$34.99 or US$39.99, and one source lists a 57% education discount.
Check Adobe’s page for the exact figure and renewal price before you commit, and see this price discussion for the range of numbers.
Notion
Notion for Education gives students and educators with a school email the Plus plan free, covering one member, up to 100 guests and unlimited uploads. Student organisations at select institutions can get free Plus for unlimited members.
There is also a reported 50% off Notion AI for the first twelve months, which you can look up on Notion’s pricing page.
Figma
Figma for Education gives verified students the Education plan with Professional features, FigJam and Dev Mode. Figma’s built-in AI tools are not included, as a
Figma forum thread discusses, though Figma Make is available to higher-education and bootcamp students.
Canva
Canva for Students is free for every student, and verified educators get Canva Pro features through
Canva for Education. College students usually need their institution to be in Canva for Campus to get Pro, though some regions report access with just a school email.
MATLAB, Autodesk, And Wolfram
Much of the heavy software is free through your university rather than directly. MATLAB and
Autodesk, which grants a year of no-cost access with a non-commercial banner, usually come via campus licences, as do Microsoft 365 and often Wolfram|Alpha and SPSS. Ask your IT department first.
Wolfram sells Mathematica Student subscriptions and Wolfram|Alpha Pro student pricing, and offers a free six-month Early Professionals licence after graduation.
At A Glance: Software, Design, And Hardware
| Product | What Students Get | Where To Claim |
|---|---|---|
| Apple | Education pricing year-round on Mac, iPad and Apple Watch, Creator Studio reported at US$2.99 a month | |
| Adobe | Creative Cloud Pro student pricing, about US$19.99 a month for the first year as reported | |
| Notion | Plus plan free with a school email, reported 50% off Notion AI for 12 months | |
| Figma | Education plan free with Professional features, FigJam and Dev Mode | |
| Canva | Canva Free for all students, Pro through Canva for Campus | |
| MATLAB, Autodesk, Wolfram | Usually free through your university, Wolfram student pricing and a post-graduation licence |
5. Entertainment And Lifestyle Bundles

Streaming is not the point of a learning guide, but the same student status earns a few cheap bundles, and they are worth knowing about.
Spotify Premium Student costs US$6.99 a month and includes Hulu with ads. It needs annual re-verification through SheerID, and the first month is often free for new users. One older source lists US$5.99, but the newer ones, such as
this price check, agree on US$6.99.
Amazon Prime for Young Adults gives six months free and then US$7.49 a month or US$69 a year, about half of regular Prime at US$14.99 a month. It is open to students and to ages 18 to 24, and the
Penny Hoarder guide explains the terms.
YouTube Premium for students costs roughly half the regular price. Google also bundles AI Pro with YouTube Premium at up to 70% off in some markets, which makes it worth comparing before you buy either one separately.
At A Glance: Entertainment And Lifestyle
| Service | What Students Get | Where To Claim |
|---|---|---|
| Spotify Premium Student | US$6.99 a month, includes Hulu with ads | |
| Amazon Prime for Young Adults | Six months free, then US$7.49 a month or US$69 a year | |
| YouTube Premium | Student rate at roughly half price |
6. Institutions, Societies, And Libraries

Joining a professional society is one of the cheapest career moves a student can make. Membership brings journals, communities and a credential that follows you after graduation.
IEEE
Student membership in IEEE is listed at US$16 a year on the IEEE membership catalog, with prices varying by region and society add-ons. Individual societies charge a few dollars more: the
IEEE Power and Energy Society add-on is US$1, and the
Control Systems Society is about US$5 extra.
Membership includes IEEE Spectrum and IEEE Potentials,
Collabratec, discounts on conference registration, and a 30-day free trial of
IEEE Xplore when you join. IEEE sections cite scholarships and contests, with
Region 4 student highlights mentioning up to US$250,000 a year awarded to student members.
After graduation, you get 50% off IEEE and society dues the first year after your first professional degree, as the IEEE membership page describes. Section reports also list 35% off Wiley books, 20% off Mathematica and Wolfram products and Dell discounts. You qualify if you are enrolled in at least half a full-time programme in an IEEE-designated field.
The IEEE Education Society ran a free student membership during IEEE Education Week, 11 to 19 April 2026, and that offer has expired. Its regular student dues are US$1 a year, listed on the Education Society membership page, and
IEEE Education Week returns each spring.
ACM
The ACM membership options are straightforward. Student membership is US$19, student plus the
ACM Digital Library is US$42, student plus print CACM and XRDS is US$42, and the Digital Library with print CACM is US$62.
When you graduate, the student transition rate is US$49 instead of the regular US$99, with the Digital Library at US$50 for the first year. Membership also brings XRDS magazine, Student Quick Takes newsletters, student research competitions and chapter access.
Coursera And edX
You can audit most courses on Coursera and
edX for free. Coursera’s financial aid can cover 100% of a course or specialisation including the certificate, applied for per course, with reviews taking up to about 15 days, as
Coursera’s offers page explains.
edX financial assistance gives about 90% off the verified track, and this edX guide walks through applying. Coursera has no dedicated student discount, but
Coursera Plus annual pricing is often discounted, for example US$239 against US$399 shown on some course pages.
Libraries And Open Resources
Your institution is the key to most paid research content. JSTOR and
Project MUSE are normally free to enrolled students on campus or by login.
JSTOR also runs the JSTOR Access Initiative, which gives eligible nonprofit institutions free or reduced-fee access to its archival journals and primary sources, with tiers set by country. Ask your library whether it takes part.
Some resources are free to everyone with no login: the Internet Archive,
Open Library,
Project Gutenberg and the
Open Textbook Library.
Libby lets you borrow ebooks and audiobooks from your public library.
At A Glance: Societies, Libraries, And Learning
| Resource | What Students Get | Where To Claim |
|---|---|---|
| IEEE | Student membership from US$16 a year, 30-day Xplore trial, 50% off dues after graduation | |
| ACM | Student membership US$19, with Digital Library US$42, transition rate US$49 | |
| Coursera and edX | Free auditing, Coursera aid up to 100%, edX aid about 90% | |
| JSTOR and Project MUSE | Free through your institution, with JSTOR Access Initiative tiers by country | |
| Open resources | Internet Archive, Open Library, Project Gutenberg, Open Textbook Library and Libby, all free |
7. Country And Region Notes

Where you live changes what you can claim more than any other factor. Here is how the offers sort by region.
The United States is the most generous overall, with Google AI Pro, ChatGPT Plus, Codex credits, Copilot Student if sign-ups reopen, Cursor and SuperGrok. Start with the Gemini students page, the
OpenAI offer and
Cursor for students.
Canada gets Codex credits and Cursor, but Google’s AI Plus student offer excludes Canada, and AI Pro is described for US students. See Codex credits for students and
Cursor for students.
India has Google AI Plus free for a year, for residents who redeem by 31 December 2026. Students there also get Microsoft 365 Personal at 50% off (a free twelve-month offer was reported earlier), Apple education pricing, and Azure and AWS programmes, while Cursor’s offer appears not to cover India per forum reports. Start with Google India’s announcement,
Apple’s India education store and
Azure for Students.
Europe and the UK have Google AI Plus free, Cursor eligibility in many countries, Spotify and Prime student pricing, and Apple and Adobe education pricing. See the Gemini students page,
Spotify Student and
Adobe student plans.
In Africa and the Middle East, Google AI Pro is free in six African markets and Google AI Plus in Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Iraq and Jordan. Read the reports from Techeconomy,
Ahram Online and
Le360.
In Australia and Colombia, the earlier ChatGPT Plus one-month pilot has ended, and you can check OpenAI Help for any new programme.
At A Glance: Regions
| Region | Best Offers | Where To Start |
|---|---|---|
| United States | Google AI Pro, ChatGPT Plus, Codex credits, Cursor | |
| Canada | Codex credits and Cursor, no Google AI Plus | |
| India | Google AI Plus free for a year, Microsoft 365 at 50% off, Apple education pricing | |
| Europe and the UK | Google AI Plus free, Cursor in many countries, Spotify and Prime pricing | |
| Africa and the Middle East | Google AI Pro in six African markets, AI Plus in five Middle East and North Africa markets | |
| Australia and Colombia | Earlier ChatGPT Plus pilot has ended |
8. Practical Tips

A few habits will save you money and trouble across everything above.
- Start with the
GitHub Student Developer Pack, since many other perks, such as JetBrains, Azure and Notion, can be activated through it.
- Use your school email first, because it unlocks most verification flows: SheerID, UNiDAYS,
Microsoft and
Notion.
- Put calendar reminders on every free-period end date.
Google,
OpenAI, Microsoft, Cursor and
Spotify all auto-renew at full price.
- Check your university’s IT portal, because campus licences often give you
MATLAB,
Autodesk, Microsoft 365 and Wolfram for free.
- Verify residency requirements, since some offers demand that you live in the country where you claim, as the
Google India terms show.
- Plan for graduation, because free academic access ends when you leave or when verification lapses. The discounts to remember are
JetBrains at 40%,
IEEE at 50% and the
ACM transition rate.
9. Conclusion: Your Next Steps

You do not need a big budget to learn like a professional in 2026. One afternoon can give you a frontier AI assistant, a cloud account, a professional code editor, design tools and membership in the field’s main professional society. What matters is what you build with them.
Here is a simple plan for your first week:
- Verify your student status with the
GitHub Student Developer Pack so the rest becomes easier.
- Claim your AI plan before the deadlines:
Google by 31 December or, in the US,
ChatGPT Plus by 31 October.
- Start one free course and finish it, whether
NVIDIA DLI,
IBM SkillsBuild or
Google Skills.
- Join a society for the community and the journals, either
IEEE or
ACM.
- Build something small and put it on GitHub, because credentials open doors but a public project proves you can do the work.
Read the fine print, calendar every renewal date, and use the free time well. Welcome to the tech world.
